I'm trying to connect my 360 to my pc, I have 'em both connected to a router. It works fine when I turn off my firewall (zonealarm free), but for obvious reasons, I want to keep it on. I have a list of ports I need to open. So what I'm asking is... How do I open/close individual ports?

best thing to do is to just set the Xbox 360 to the DMZ. it wont get any viruses considering its not an actual OS. thats the best thing to do since every xbox game uses different ports to connect and thus you would be opening up 2 or 3 ports per game and that is jus a waste.

ty, but It's not for actual gaming that I need to open 'em. I can play on xbox live no problem. It's the computer's firewall that's the problem, I need to open certain ports for a proggy called windows media connect so I can stream music between the two.

that site seems to be completely about routers, as I've said, my problem is with my comp's firewall.

Yeh... I have the list of ports, I just can't find where to go in the ZA interface.

lemmie check it out..

will edit this post later.

*edit*

the free version will not allow this unless you can get a direct link between the 360 and the program. i would try to disable ZA, then connect the two, and while there is still a connection, turn ZA on, and let it find the open ports, then allow them. that would be my idea.

from what i saw, only the advanced version allows you to assign certain ports.

[COUGH] im sure you can find a way around buying it [/COUGH]

yeh I was considering investigating how immoral people like that manage that sort of thing, but didn't bother because the two versions seemed much the same, but perhaps I will do some uhhhhh... research.

-edit- right, i acquired a liceinse key through creative and/or dishonest means. Do excuse my idiocy, but I didn't see anything like open/close ports for dummies with names of ports and check boxes. So I assume it's something more complicated, what should I be doing?

tyvm for all help...

see if this works. open up ZA and go to the firewall tab on the left. in the trusted zone box on the right side, click on custom. in the pop-up box, find thease four:
-Allow incoming UDP Ports:
-Allow outgoing UDP Ports:
-Allow incoming TCP Ports:
-Allow outgoing TCP Ports:

on the UDP ones, write "2689,10243" for both
on the TCP ones, write "1900,10284,10283,10282,10281,10280" for both.

try connecting the Xbox now.

the truble shooting guide on the xbox says 2869 not 2689, I assume you just made a mistake typing that... anyway neither work. Now even when I turn off the FW altogether, I still can't connect 'em, even though, to my knowledge, I haven't changed anything! it's really wierd, when I "test my media connection" via the xbox, it passes every test, but then when I try to contact the comp, nothing... any ideas?

even still, its the same ports on any XP OS. thats all that matters is the program, not the OS.

Yes, but this is for windows media centre extender, I believe that's a programme for windows media centre only, for example, in the steps, it says to allow these programmes...

Quote:
Ehshell.exe
Mcrdsvc.exe
Svchost.exe
Mcxnettw.exe
MCRMgr Mcrmgr.exe
Ehexthost.exe

I don't have the majority of those, I even tried searching them in explorer
